Built by Alco-Brooks in September of 1912, Chicago & Eastern Illinois 2-8-2 #1914 proved that it was both powerful and fast making it an essential part of the roster. After nearly 37 years of service in both passenger and freight, the loco was sold for scrap to the M.S. Kaplan Company in August of 1949. Original specs - serial #51859, N-1 class, 63" drivers, 175 psi boiler pressure, 28x30" cylinders, engine weight of 300,000 lb, tractive effort of 55,533 lb. No date or photographer was listed for the photo. An approximate date was used. |
